194) TOP 10  Relics of persons / things in the bible

Remember all the relics, bones, bodies and artifacts were in the middle ages and earlier times used to "prove" to the uneducated "laity" that Orthodoxy, or the early sacerdotalist church before them, was the "true church". In more educated and enlightened times these relics are so transparently fake they prove the Orthodox religion for the fake it really is!

1) Jesus relics -

a) The "True Cross" of Jesus 

​bThe heart and blood of Jesus (see - bodies) see the Miracle of Lanciano and other fakes of such.

note: not to be confused with the sp called blood of St Januarius. 

​c) The Holy Nail used to crucify Jesus. (in 36 churches)

d) The shroud of Jesus - The Shroud of Turin. 

e) The Holy Grail (lots of them)

​f) The crown of thorns 

​g)  The Holy Lance - the spear of "Longinus" used to pierce Jesus' side when he was on the cross, to ensure that he had died.

​h) The Holy Sponge, - the sponge that was dipped in vinegar? (Frankish = alleviated Jesus sufferings on the cross) sent by the Pope to make a war with the Muslims into a Holy War, at the time of Charles Martel

i) The Scala Sancta, - the stairs from Pontius Pilate's praetorium

j) The Holy Coat: of Jesus -  (John 19:23), for which the soldiers cast lots at the 

k) The seamless robe of Jesus 

​l) The Column of the Flagellation 

​m) The Jesus Table 

n) Jesus' Foreskin - Yes, it really is as weird as it sounds. As many as 18 different churches have laid claim to having the skin from the infant Jesus's circumcised penis since the Middle Ages. St Catherine of Siena even claimed to wear an invisible foreskin as a ring.

o) Jesus' Umbilical cord 

p) The swaddling clothes of the baby Jesus

q) The gifts of the Magi . 

r)  Acheiropoieta / acheiropoieton: (chiefly Eastern Orthodoxy) An image of Christ believed not to have been created by human hands; a miraculous representation of Jesus. These forgeries all look different .

s)  The actual cloth in John 20:5-6. The Sudarium of Oviedo t

t) The Veil of St. Veronica - which according to legend was used to wipe the sweat from Jesus' brow as he carried the cross, is also said to bear the likeness of the face of Christ. Today, several images claim to be the Veil of Veronica.

u)  The (now lost?) knife that was used by Jesus during the Last Supper .

v)  The wine jars from the wedding in Cana .

w) The holy innocents in Bethlehem - Relics in the holy cave of the 14,000.

x)  Shrine of the Three Kings, Cologne .

2) Mary the Mother of Jesus :

a) The Tomb of the Virgin Mary - in the Kidron Valley – at the foot of Mount of Olives, in Jerusalem – believed by Eastern Christians to be the burial place of Mary, the mother of Jesus. a problem for Catholics who say she never died. 

​b) Mary's Holy Belt - a hand-woven, camel-hair belt handed to Saint Thomas just before she floated up to heaven.  a special chapel was erected to house it in Prato, Italy .

c) The Tunic of Mary (Sancta Camisia)  - 

3) Peter:

a) Many complete bodies of St Peter, or body parts .
