Works never save.

If you worked for 150 thousand billion trillion years, you could not earn half a split second in Paradise with God himself. Its too good. You insult the finished work of Christ. Eternal gifts cannot be earned by finite works whatsoever.

This is directly linked to the topics of Catholic supererogation and "the treasury of merit". It is odd that the Catholics can accept these things yet totally deny the belief in the imputed righteousness of Christ and the concept of quote "The Lord our righteousness", as if they can only accept the benefits Christ can bestow on others piecemeal.  The "the treasury of merit" also has an Antinomian side to it, as if anyone can be rescued in Catholic theology using a treasury of works of supererogation and some torture in Purgatory, if you are a Popish minion.

Passing beyond salvation - if salvation is by works in combination with priestcraft, then if enough works are not done in a (say) 60 year period, like almost none, a person would pass beyond salvation. Your "personal barchart of good works" is far far too small. In the Protestant gospel you get a restart every day and works never contribute, so no one passes beyond salvation. If they reply "in Orthodoxy no backslider passes beyond salvation either" then lets face it, they want their cake and eat it, they want it part and not part of salvation, another of their oxymorons invented to cement over the big holes in their 3rd rate theology.

They are also a church of do nothings. Yet believe in works salvation. They are so busy spending the money they filch from the "laity" on gold, silver icons, buildings and crowns and uniforms they don't have the cash to help anyone. They are also too busy robbing people in Greece over burials.

The homeless people in Russia were so impressed the Salvation Army were actually out there helping them (unlike the Orthodox do nothing for anyone church) that they wanted to join the Salvation Army in massive numbers..... so..... the Orthodox church organised that the Salvation Army was to be banned.

Living in denial over works of Supererogation.

Catholics are the same .

Roman Catholics are the same as Eastern Orthodox, and say works save your soul, if they are done "as a good Catholic" not as "a Protestant sinner, atheist or anyone else".

If salvation were to come by works, done by nature, without faith and grace, salvation would not be a grace or favour, but a debt; but such dead works are indeed of no value in the sight of God towards salvation. It is not the same with regard to works done with, and by, God’s grace; for to such works as these, he has promised eternal salvation."

By the way, this verse proves we are saved only by Jesus so strongly the Roman Catholics attack it in two ways:

1) They remove half of the verse from the Latin Holy Bible (Amazing!!!)

2) They put footnotes "explaining" Catholic works save, and bible verses denying works save are talking about non Catholic works (preposterous).

"And if by grace, it is not now by works: otherwise grace is no more grace."

"And if by grace, then is it no more of works: otherwise grace is no more grace. But if it be of works, then is it no more grace: otherwise work is no more work."

The treasury of merit 

consists, according to Catholic belief, of the merits of Jesus Christ and his faithful, a treasury that because of the communion of saints benefits others too. [1]  According to the Westminster Dictionary of Theological Terms, this Catholic belief is a way of expressing the view that the good works done by Jesus and others can benefit other people, and "contemporary Roman Catholic theologians see it as a metaphor for ways in which the faith of Christ and the saints helps others".[2] ,
